I saw some banks (e.1000. Citibank) have dissimilar routing numbers for dissimilar states, and I would similar to know: if I move to another land, will my current routing number be changed?

Does routing number come with the state I open the account, or come with the near current residence?

Cheers.

Frequently, different routing numbers were the result of mergers and acquisitions. My banks have never forced me to move my accounts or change account numbers or otherwise make any changes related to my relocation. They just would go along to administrate my business relationship from whatever division I outset opened the business relationship, even if I started doing my banking at a branch within which new account would have a dissimilar routing number.

The routing number volition remain with you later on you move. It specifies the country where you opened the account. Sometimes that gets you some tiny perks.

I don't know why they (ACH/Feds) don't clean this up and assign each bank a static Routing Number ..... I take 2 different Routing Numbers with the same bank considering I opened the accounts in different cities.

BofA, Chase, Citi, Wells, PNC, and other Large National banks ought to have a singular routing number and part of the account number format should decide the region.

Mergers shouldn't be an excuse, because your account number changes when yous bank is eaten by some other, then banking company still has to issue new material and you however have to provide new numbers for your Straight Deposit and Auto Debits.

The banks could clean it up if they wanted to do so but the make clean up would negatively impact more than customers than leaving it alone. There would be zilch reason for the fed to get involved with this.

Information technology'south not true that your account number changes when your bank is eaten. I've gone through Corestates, First Union, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo with the aforementioned account number.

Mine didn't. Bank of Boston was gobbled up by Bay Banking company to create BankBoston, which was gobbled up by Fleet, which was gobbled upwards by Banking concern of America.

Yes, please don't involve the fed in this. They have much bigger things to worry about.

Plus can you imagine having to change a whole bunch of checkbooks every fourth dimension a merger happens? I know less and less people are writing checks but they are still out there and it would not be helpful to have to reprint with new numbers for the sake of "make clean up"
